Linaro member boards get accelerated builds of Android Ice Cream Sandwich
December 23, 2011 by publisher · Leave a Comment
Remember Linaro? How could you forget, right? The non-profit engineering organization that formed back at Computex 2010 has been plugging away for over 1.5 years now, and its most recent development involves everyone’s fav-o-rite build of Android: Ice Cream Sandwich. The company has just released ICS builds supporting accelerated graphics on two of its member’s low cost development boards: the Samsung Origen and ST-Ericsson Snowball. The outfit already displayed videos of Android 4.0.1 running on TI’s PandaBoard and Freescale’s i.MX53, and the accelerated graphics support that has been made available today makes use of the ARM Mali-400 processor. For those unaware, developers are able to create optimized Linux-based devices with the support of Linaro, and if you’re in one of those member groups, you’ll also enjoy DS-5 with Gator and libjpeg-turbo support. Head on past the break for a smattering of videos.

Stream TV launching glasses free Ultra-D 3DTV tech at CES, again
December 23, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment
We don’t recall seeing Stream TV’s Elocity 3T autostereoscopic 3D TV on shelves after our CES demo last year , but to be fair, we don’t get out much. Not to worry however, as the company will be back at CES 2012, this time touting Ultra-D “next generation 3D without glasses display technology” that it claims will surpass all 3D experiences to date. Lofty claims, but it’s also banking on its tech for realtime 2D-to-3D conversion of any video content, with plans for the brand to reach TVs, converter boxes, tablets, PCs and more. Check out the press release after the break to drink in more hype, we’ll be in line to see what’s real at its press conference January 9th. Tesla confirms Model S pricing and options: $49,900 and up after tax credits
December 21, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment
Tesla Motors has talked a fair bit about pricing for its Model S sedan over the past couple of years, but it’s now finally set things in stone. US pricing for the base model will start at $49,900, although that’s only after you factor in the $7,500 federal tax credit. As Tesla notes, that’s the very same pricing that the company first promised way back when the car was unveiled in 2009, but it does come with a few trade-offs (more on that later). Opting for that base model will get you 40 kWh battery, along with 19-inch wheels and the 17-inch touchscreen in the dash that’s included on all models. The standard Model S can also be upgraded to a 60kWh or 85kWh package for an extra $10,000 and $20,000, respectively (also including other performance improvements), while the top-of-the-line Model S Performance model starts at $79,900 (also after the tax credit). Somewhat curiously, while that stand-out touchscreen is standard on all models, you’ll have to add the $3,750 tech package if you want built-in navigation and other options like a high definition back-up camera. You can price things out for yourself and check out all of the customizations options at the source link below. After waiting eleven months just to profess your intent , what’s another two before taking delivery of your Focus Electric ? That’s right, electric hatchback lovers, your pre-ordered chariots just went into production and will be rolling out of Ford’s Michigan plant come January. Despite the looming delivery, the automaker has yet to reveal its official range. AutoBlog Green muses that with its 23-kWh pack it’ll probably be good for about 70 miles — comparable to its slightly cheaper competition, the Nissan Leaf , which eked out 73 miles from its 24-kWh juice box in official testing. Will Ford spill the beans before CES 2012? Definitively maybe , but in the meantime hit the source to see a bevy of snaps from the production line — go on, with some luck it might just be yours. GSM Galaxy Nexus 4.0.2 update rolls out, matches its cousin on Verizon
December 17, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment
After the Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus finally appeared and was (almost) immediately updated yesterday , it enjoyed the briefest of possible periods as the highest official Android version available. Now, owners of GSM-equipped Galaxy Nexus phones are getting the same bundle of tweaks shoved their way in a quick 8.7MB download. Of course, even these pure(r) Nexus phones are still slightly behind the bleeding edge represented by v4.0.3, which was unveiled earlier today and almost simultaneously made available on the Nexus S — isn’t Android great? CPU Wars and c-Jump: the nerdiest card and board games ever
December 17, 2011 by publisher · Leave a Comment
Board games and card games are kind of dorky to begin with. And there are plenty of titles out there that hold a special place in the heart of the nerd (just ask one about Settlers of Catan ). But, there is a line, a line which even the nerdiest amongst us might not care to cross. For example, c-Jump — a board game that teaches the basics of programming. Some of the spaces you’ll land on in the course of your journey down the mountain include “goto jump;” and “switch (x) {“. Then there’s CPU Wars, for the three people out there that think Magic: The Gathering is too mainstream.
